Some of our patients assume that we are merely making a suggestion when we tell them that we want them to schedule their dental visits every six months. However, it is essential for your dental health that you come to see us on a regular six-month schedule as recommended.

By coming in every six months, we can catch any oral health concerns (and possibly some general health concerns) early in their progression and begin treating them before they become a serious issue.

Our Atlanta cosmetic dentists do much more than merely clean your teeth at your regular six-month checkup. Your checkup includes:

A Head and Neck Exam

Your dentist will start your six-month visit by visually checking your head and neck for irregularities, swellings and other indicators of trouble. From there, they will check your lymph nodes for swelling, tenderness and changes that have happened only on one side. Finally, they will check your temporomandibular joint (where your jaw attaches) for any clicking, popping or irregularities.

An Examination of Your Teeth and Gums

Your dentist in Atlanta will then conduct a thorough examination of your teeth and gums. This includes checking the teeth for breaks, chips, fractures, wear, general tooth decay and any dental restorations that need replacing. Your Atlanta teeth whitening dentist will also check your gum tissue for signs of periodontal disease, infection and systemic diseases that could affect your health.

Dental Cleaning

The dental cleaning portion is the part most people think of when they think about a regular dental checkup. One of our dental hygienists will begin by sitting down with you and using a variety of dental cleaning tools to carefully remove the pellicle, plaque and tartar that have accumulated on your teeth.

They will continue the cleaning by polishing your teeth with a slightly abrasive paste to remove extrinsic stains and make it more difficult for plaque to stick to your teeth.
